Some insights from my time at Osa Conservation and I started an Instagram account!

The first few months have been a period of immense learning, exploration, and personal and professional growth. Diving deeper into my project on vertical stratification of the rainforest.

But what is my project about? I have been studying how biodiversity is organized across different layers of the forest, using Osa Conservation´s canopy tower as the primary site for the project. The study focuses on mammals, birds, and flying insects: a community-level, multi-method study examining how life and resources are organized vertically.

With the relentless advance of global warming, researchers warn that increasing temperatures might lead to the collapse of the vertical niche space, with subsequent species decline, especially in the canopy layer. Therefore, taking the time to examine and understand which species are found where and which ones are more vulnerable can help us better protect these ecosystems in the years to come.

Contributing to conservation work has been an enriching experience, learning from an array of experts, locals, and the land itself. I have a newfound sense of commitment and responsibility to use my background and skills to help protect these environments and to continue doing so in the years to come.

Besides my research project, I intend to share some of my stories from working in the field, the people I get to work with, and some videos and photos on this blog and my Instagram account as well.

geoandante_ finally came to be!

After a few years of debating my relationship with social media, I decided to start an Instagram account to share a bit more about my journey working with Osa and, hopefully, continue it in the future, sharing anecdotes from my past travels and journeys of exploration focused on conservation and environmental education around the world. My hope is that it can serve as a seed of inspiration for new generations, foster a sense of appreciation for the environments we're part of, and create a sense of responsibility to protect them and our communities as well.
